Hike for Haiti Challenge
Going the Distance with the Hike for Haiti Challenge
Imagine having to walk up 200 flights of steps from the bottom of a mountain to drink clean water, receive health care, or go to school. This is the reality for students and their families as well as the Doctors, Nurses, and other Healthcare professionals who are on the frontlines of keeping everyone healthy from COVID-19 in the rural community of Marre à Coiffe, Haiti.
However, during this time of social distancing, Hope for Haiti, a Naples, Florida-based organization committed to providing support for the Haitian people every day is inviting people to participate in the 2nd Annual Hike for Haiti Challenge, a virtual initiative that invites people to virtually walk those 200 flights of steps—or the equivalent which is walking or running 22,000 steps (approximately 10.5 miles)—or join the fun, exclusive, live-streamed workouts with Hike for Haiti campaign ambassadors and partners now through May 17, 2020.
Getting involved in the Hike for Haiti Challenge is easy. Simply, visit the Hike for Haiti Challenge site, register, start moving, tracking your activity and share the results on social media using #HFHChallenge and tagging @hopeforhaiti for a chance to win prizes such as a treadmill from TechnoGym, a signed book from Edwidge Dandicat and more exciting items.
Not only will the Hike for Haiti Challenge motivate participants to stay active, but 100 percent of the registration is also tax-deductible and will provide three children with essential back-to-school supplies, a physical and deworming treatment/prevention as well as provide vital support through Haiti’s COVID-19 response and education programming.
Along with taking a socially-distanced jog or walk outside, individuals participating in the Hike for Haiti Challenge can also get involved from the comfort of their own home through virtual inspired workouts and wellness sessions with campaign partners and ambassadors such as Crossfit with Brawley Sioux Adams, a Dance Workout with 305 Fitness and yoga with Core Power Yoga. Also joining the challenge as Ambassadors are: MLS Player Jozy Altidore, DOGPOUND Founding Trainer Louis Chandler-Joseph, Media Strategist Karen Civil, Actor Gary Dourdan, NHL Play Anthony Duclair, Standup Comedian Tanael Joachim, and Radio/TV Personality Carel Pedre.
Also, Hope for Haiti is implementing several short- and long-term initiatives in the global flight against COVID-19. Among the goals of the organization whose response takes into account lessons learned from their response to the 2010 Earthquake, the cholera epidemic, and Hurricane Matthew, are to execute mobilize teachers to share prevention strategies to stop the spread of COVID-19, distribute 50,000 surgical masks and 7,300 hygiene kits for free to healthcare partners and students in southern Haiti, and distribute medical supplies, medication, and Personal Protective Equipment to both vulnerable Haitians and healthcare partners, to name a few.
