Dr. Jean Orelien is the CEO and President of SciMetrika, LLC, a company that he co-founded in 2001. The mission of SciMetrika is to provide scientific, technical and technology solutions that lead to advancement in human health. In the past 10 years, SciMetrika has achieved more than $100M in billings and performed on more than 150 federal contracts or task order awards. The company has received numerous awards for growth, including in 2010 the North Carolina Council for Entrepreneurial Development’s Companies to Watch, as well as Inc. magazine’s Top 500 Fastest Growing Companies in both 2010 and 2011. SciMetrika has supported key public health programs including the National Toxicology Program, the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, the National Diabetes Education Program, Heart and Cardiovascular programs, programs to prevent birth defects, violence and HIV programs. Also, SciMetrika has provided technical assistance to organizations in more than 35 countries to build their capacity to implement public health programs.

In December 2015, SciMetrika acquired the assets of the Hamner Institute and launched ScitoVation, LLC.ScitoVation is the recognized leader in the use of cell-based science (in-vitro studies) and computer modeling (in-silico) to ascertain chemical safety. ScitoVation clients include the American Chemistry Council, Dow Chemical, Unilever and 3M.

Dr. Orelien has been honored as one of Inc. magazine’s Top 10 Black Entrepreneurs (2010 and 2011), top 50 African-American in science and technology by Black Money, and in 2011 received the James E. Grizzle Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Biostatistics.
