Maarten Boute

Chairman of Digicel Haiti

Maarten Boute is the Chairman of Digicel Haiti, the largest telecommunications provider in Haiti with over 4.5m customers.

Maarten joined Digicel Haiti as COO in January 2009 and was promoted to CEO in December 2009. Prior to working for Digicel, Maarten was Group CEO at Effortel Europe for whom he launched an MVNE in Brussels, Belgium that launched several large MVNOs in Taiwan, Poland, Russia, Italy, Belgium and France in partnership with large brands such as the French retailer Carrefour. Prior to that, Maarten held senior positions at Orange Group, based in Belgium.

In April 2012, while continuing to play a role as Senior Advisor at Digicel, Maarten decided to leave the CEO role to set up his own (social) businesses in Haiti. Together with Haitian partners, he founded SURTAB SA an Ed-Tech company that manufactures high quality and affordable Android Tablet PC’s and develops eLearning solutions in Haiti. Maarten also founded RE-VOLT SA, a social business that provides pay-as-you-go off-grid electrification services in rural areas of Haiti not covered by the electrical grid.

In April 2014, Maarten returned to his role as CEO of Digicel Haiti, in December 2014 he was promoted to Chairman. Maarten also continues to play a key role as Chairman of surtab and RE-VOLT and is also board-member of the Port-au-Prince Marriott Hotel, the Digicel Haiti Foundation and Digital Satellite Systems, a digital TV broadcaster.

Maarten lives between Miami and Haiti and has four children. He speaks English, French, Dutch and Haitian Creole.
