Ms. Soeurette Michel is the CEO and Founder of The Michel Law Firm, LLC based in South Florida. Ms. Michel is a skilled and well-respected attorney with broad experience in the areas of business litigation, criminal defense, immigration and naturalization law, and human rights.

Ms. Michel earned an Associate Degree with honors from Valencia Community College.  She received her Bachelor of Sciences (B.S.) in Legal Studies, her Master Degree in Criminal Justice, and a Graduate Certificate in Juvenile Justice Leadership from the University of Central Florida (UCF) and was a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice Honor Society. Ms. Michel graduated with her Juris Doctor from Florida A&M University College of Law where she founded the first Caribbean Law Student Association and served as the President for one year; she served as the community service chair for the student’s body; and served as a Moot Court Member.  She graduated Cum Laude with her Masters of Law (LLM) in Intercultural Human Rights from St Thomas University School of Law where she was law review member.  Ms. Michel has been involved in assisting and advocating for migrants in the Dominican Republic for the past 20 years and wrote her LLM thesis on “Human Trafficking of Haitians within Haiti and the Dominican Republic: A Human Rights Approach,” in which she outlined the challenges facing Haitians’ victims of human trafficking especially in the Dominican Republic.  She also graduated from Pembroke Pines Citizens Police Academy.

Ms. Michel is also a proud graduated of the University of Haiti State where she graduated with a B.A in Social Communication, Public Relations, and Journalism in 1998. Before she immigrated to the US in 2001 Ms. Michel worked as an Administrative Assistant and Consultant for different national and international organizations in Haiti in the field of Tourism, Cargo and Immigration, Communication, and Education.

Ms. Michel is involved in local, state bar associations, and her community. She formerly served on n the Board of Directors for Legal Services of Greater Miami. She served on the Board of the Education Law Committee of the Florida Bar and she is currently serving on the Board of Consumer Protection Law Committee. Ms. Michel has volunteered countless hours to assist Haitian nationals with their TPS applications in the US; she is one of the attorneys working on the Cholera case against the United Nations on behalf of the victims in Haiti and contributed extensively in writing and proofreading the two Amicus Briefs submitted to the NY Southern District Court of Appeals. In addition, Ms. Michel has been involved with advocating on behalf of Haitians migrants living in the United States, the Bahamas, Canada, and the Dominican Republic. She serves on the Finance Committee at Saint Bartholomew Catholic Church, Miramar, Florida.  This past October Ms. Michel coordinated as the Southern District Regional Chair the successful 2015 Friends of Haiti Inc. (FOH) 2nd Haitian Diaspora Presidential Debate in Miami, Florida.

Ms. Michel has been honored and recognized by many academic and social organizations for her outstanding work, support, and involvement including but not limited to Amnesty International; the Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC); the Orange County for a Drug Free Community; the Department of Treasury (IRS); the National Criminal Justice Honor Society; the International Mission on Diplomacy; the National Dean List; the National Scholar Honor Society; Florida A&M School of Law; the Center for Multi-Cultural and Wellness; Valencia Community College; the Black High Achievers Club; the Haitian Lawyers Association; and the Association of Exchange and Development of Activities and Partnership Inc.
