Dr. Ernest George Simms, a native of St Ann, Jamaica where he received his early child hood and high school education. Dr. Simms is the holder of the following degrees: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Barrington College, Barrington Rhode Island; Master’s Degree in Higher Education from Boston University and an Ed. D in Humanistic and Behavioral Science from Boston University. Dr. Simms also completed advance training in higher education at the Harvard School of Education.

A seasoned and experienced professional in Higher Education, Dr. Simms is credited with more than twenty five years of work experience in higher education at both the collegiate and senior university levels. Among the leadership positions which he has held included the ranks of several Directors and Executive Directorships, Assistant and Associate Dean, and Associate Vice President and Assistant Vice Provost at a number of top ranked colleges and universities in the United States. In addition to his administrative responsibilities Dr. Simms has held the ranks of Assistant and Associate professor in Higher Education teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Notable achievements included: the awarding of numerous federal, state, and corporate grants in support of innovative pipeline educational initiatives serving under-represented students in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Black Achiever of Business and Education, FIU Opportunity Award and Who is Who in Black America.

Dr. Simms is currently the Assistant Vice-Provost of Academic Affairs – Student Access & Success at Florida International University.
