Jean G. Orelien, DrPH, MStat

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SciMetrika, LLC

Dr. Jean Orelien is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of SciMetrika, LLC, a leading population health research company headquartered in Durham, N.C. with offices in Atlanta, Ga and Silver Spring, Md.

Dr. Orelien, a distinguished public health researcher, built the company with a singular focus on public health research with the goal of improving health, and has guided it through periods of rapid growth, resulting in the SciMetrika’s annual inclusion on lists such as the Inc 500|5000, Triangle Business Journal Fast 50, and NC Companies to Watch. Dr. Orelien has also been recognized for his entrepreneurial accomplishments, including being honored as one of Inc. magazine’s Top 10 Black Entrepreneurs in 2010 and 2011, receiving the James E. Grizzle Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Biostatistics in 2011, and being named a Global Gateway Mentor by the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health in 2014.

Dr. Orelien’s technical background includes more than ten years of experience as a senior statistician and project manager on projects funded by agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services, and he has particular expertise in the development of sophisticated statistical programs, the utilization of statistical methods to analyze epidemiological data, survey analysis, and the use of SUDAAN and SAS software. Dr. Orelien earned his doctorate of public health in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his master’s degree in statistics from North Carolina State University. He has authored a number of technical and scientific papers and presentations and is a member of the American Statistical Association and the American Public Health Association.
