NAAHP Recognizes Influential Leaders and Professionals Across Diaspora

HILLSIDE, NJ — The National Alliance for the Advancement of Haitian Professionals (NAAHP) is recognizing influential leaders and professionals who have made an impact on our community in the United States and Haiti through public or community service.

Some of the notable names include Jacques-Philippe Piverger, the chief executive officer and co-founder of MpowerD or Micro Power Design, Inc.); Jacques M. Jean is the Corporate IT Lead and Senior Director of Global Service Delivery for Invensys; Dr. Daniel Laroche, a glaucoma specialist in New York, Director of Glaucoma Services and President of Advanced Eyecare of New York; and Samuel Pierre, the Brooklyn Borough Director in the Community Affairs Unit with the Office of the Mayor of New York.

“Hard work, reading every day, pursuing higher education, learning from those who paved the way ahead of me including my mom and dad and being inspired by those ancestors that sacrificed for me such as Toussaint L’Ouverture, Jean Jacques Dessalines, Fredrick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Jr. and many others. As you go along, the most important thing [is] to stay focused,” stated Dr. Laroche.

The Member and Haitian Leaders spotlights, which can be found on our website, www.naahpusa.org, showcases the many men and women who have worked diligently to help restore Haiti as the “pearl of the Antilles,” empowering others to get involved, while mentoring and setting the example for future generations.

“Young Haitian professionals need to see Haitian Americans in high positions. Sometimes they need that motivation or just to know that another Haitian American is able to get that job or get that award is very necessary,” said Pierre.

“Develop a passion for learning and dream big. If you do, you will never cease to grow because knowledge is the key to real success! Know what you want, build a plan and go get it, be bold and don’t be afraid to fail because failure is success if you learn from it,” stated Jean.

“They have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to NAAHP’s core values – professional development, networking, mentoring, collaboration, and service. Our growing membership body represents the many accomplishments we have made as a people,” said Serge Renaud, Chairperson of the NAAHP Board. It is important for us to combine our strengths as we move forward to address our shared concerns and priorities.”

“Haiti’s greatest resource is its people. Time needs to be spent developing the people–education, economic self-sufficiency, health. I think there should be less focus on national level politics and more attention on real people in the places they live,” stated Jacques-Philippe Piverger.

National Alliance for the Advancement of Haitian Professionals, (NAAHP)

The National Alliance for the Advancement of Haitian Professionals (NAAHP) was created in 2011 as a non-profit organization with the vision of becoming the premier organization dedicated to preparing Haitian professionals in the Diaspora for leadership positions throughout the U.S. The NAAHP develops partnerships that result in the creation of intellectual and economic wealth within the Haitian community while creating mentoring opportunities between Haitian professionals and high school or college age students to assist in growing the talent pipeline of professionals in various industries. We remain committed to making a difference in the United States by providing the cultural awareness and sensitivity vital in the management of the nation’s diverse workforce, and abroad by building a strong network of Haitian professionals and like-minded organizations to help rebuild Haiti.
