Hillside, NJ, May 31, 2018 — The NAAHP in partnership with Florida International University (FIU) and the City of North Miami will be bringing the largest gathering of Haitian Diaspora professionals back to the greater Miami area. This year’s conference theme – The Haitian Diaspora: Disrupting and Redefining the Road Ahead will be taking place from October 25 – 27, 2018 at the Kovens Conference Center, located on FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus in North Miami.

The 2018 theme will touch on many timely issues including best practices in leadership, technology, entrepreneurship, innovation, professional development, foreign aid and investment, diversity and inclusion and the role of the Diaspora andmillennials in shaping the future workforce in the US, Haiti and abroad. As in years past, the conference will provide a lively space to consider the ways in which innovative and transformative ideas can be successfully leveraged to positively shape the future of the Diaspora and their professional narrative.

“We are proud to bring back the largest gathering of Haitian Diaspora professionals to Miami,” says, NAAHP Board Chairman, JP Michel. “The last six years have demonstrated the value of bringing together leaders, doers, students, and thinkers together to discuss the prospects and potential of the Diaspora’s growth, and we look forward to continuing to contribute to these important conversations.”

The 2015 conference was held on the FIU campus and the NAAHP is pleased to renew its collaboration via a partnership with FIU and the City of North Miami. The 2015 conference welcomed more than 500+ Diaspora professionals, business and political leaders, entrepreneurs, students and educators. Events were held throughout the city of North Miami and closed with the NAAHP Honors Gala which celebrated the accomplishments of Haitian changemakers who made a difference in their industries and community at large.

“FIU is passionately linked to the Haitian community,” said Mark B. Rosenberg, president of Florida International University. “The Haitian community has helped shape South Florida and FIU is proud to be a partner and witness their growth and success.”

North Miami Mayor, Dr. Smith Joseph, equally shared, “I take this unique opportunity to commend the NAAHP for its efforts to keep Haitians in the Diaspora relevant and their roles as concrete human resources both domestically as well as for the development for our dear native country of Haiti.”

Each year, through candid and holistic conversations, the NAAHP assembles an expert and diverse range of panelists and keynote speakers from across the globe to provide a forum for meaningful engagement among the Haitian Diaspora. Through partnerships with various organizations, the NAAHP creates a weekend dedicated to exploring long-term, sustainable solutions for advocacy, foreign aid and investment, innovation and technology, entrepreneurship, professional development, diaspora engagement, diversity and inclusion and many more key themes.

The Annual NAAHP National Conference is held on college campuses and universities along the East Coast that have large or growing populations of Haitian-Americans. In the past, this has included Columbia University in NY, NY, Harvard University in Cambridge, MA and New York University in NY, NY.
