Dr. Anna-Kay Thomas is the Director of Medical Education and Assistant Director of Family Medicine at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU), where she oversees curriculum development, the Flexible Curriculum Program, and the day-to-day operations of the Department of Medical Education. She also serves as Course Director for the Urban Medical Education and Development Program.
With more than twelve years of experience working directly with medical students and nearly two decades in higher education, Dr. Thomas has built a distinguished career designing and implementing academic enrichment programs and providing transformative coaching to students at every stage of their journey. Her work is grounded in a deep commitment to diversifying the physician workforce, empowering aspiring doctors by connecting them with the guidance, mentorship, and resources they need to thrive.
Her scholarly research centers on amplifying the untold stories of underrepresented students in medicine, illuminating their experiences to drive more equitable and inclusive educational environments. Beyond her administrative capacity, Dr. Thomas extends her mission to the youngest future physicians through her Doctors Like Me children’s book series, a collection designed to spark early curiosity, nurture representation, and help children see themselves in the world of medicine and science.
Dr. Thomas holds a Master’s degree in Student Affairs and Counseling from New York University and a Doctorate in Education, Leadership, and Management from Drexel University.
