Dr. Joel Buissereth, D. CEd
Educator and Community Leader

With over 55 years of dedicated ministry and preaching, Dr. Joel Buissereth is a passionate educator and community leader. He has spent 45 years teaching. Driven by his own early experiences of limited access to education he overcame personal educational challenges, including completing middle school at the age of 22. In 1984, being awarded a scholarship, he founded a school in his hometown of Labaliene, Haiti. The school has since grown and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024.
Dr. Buissereth’s community impact extends beyond education. He collaborated with World Vision to survey Haitian churches in South Florida, and as a founding member of the Little Haiti Housing Association, Inc. (now the Haitian American Community Development Corporation), he contributed to vital community development initiatives. He has also served as a senior/lay pastor of the Haitian Ministry Theophile Church in Christ in Atlanta, GA, since the early 1980s.
Holding a degree in Human Resources Management and Theology, as well as a PhD in Christian Education, Dr. Buissereth has dedicated his life to service. After raising their three sons, he and his wife Rachel (RN, BSN), retired and returned to Haiti to continue their missionary work. Together, they teach English at different schools in the area, support a thriving clinic, volunteer at a sewing center, and remain active in their local church, helping to uplift their community.
