Dr. Karen Stephenson

Board-Certified Internist, Alafia Medical Associates

Dr. Karen Stephenson is a Board-Certified Internist and trained in general Pediatric. She has been in practice for over 20 years.

She has held positions as Medical Director at Optum Health/United Health care, Associate Medical Director at Landmarkhealth, Director of Medical Services at New York Presbyterian Lawrence Group and has over 15 years -experience in the Emergency Room from Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City to St. Mary’s in Passaic, NJ. She obtained her medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson now Rutgers Medical in New Jersey. She also completed her medical internship and training at the State University of New York Downstate ( SUNY) in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and was give the title of Chief of the Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in her final year of training. At SUNY Downstate she had the opportunity to manage a multiplicity of medical problems affecting African Americans, Caribbean and international patients. She has also worked with the active military and their family to address the specific medical and mental needs of this population. She is proud to open her new practice Alafia Medical Associates.
