Junior Pierre Eden Fevrier

Linguistics and Translation Student, State University of Haiti

My name is Junior Pierre Eden Fevrier, and I am currently a second year PhD student at the University at Buffalo. I was born and raised in Haiti, a place that has greatly influenced my personal and academic journey.

From a young age, I was fascinated by leadership, communication and Linguistics. My journey through high school has been marked by a commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and community service, all of which have prepared me to pursue higher education and achieve my career goals. As I grew older, my passion for leadership and linguistics only intensified, leading me to choose Romance Linguistics and Literature as my field of study.

During my time at the University at buffalo, I have been actively involved in pedagogy and club meeting. My role as the vice president of the Graduate Student Association has taught me valuable
skills in leadership, teamwork, and perseverance.

In addition to my extracurricular activities, I have also excelled academically. I have maintained a 3.714 out 4.0 GPA. My academic success is a testament to my dedication and hard work, qualities
that I believe are essential for achieving my future goals.

My commitment to Linguistics extends beyond the classroom. I have been accepted to participate at four international conferences this year in Martinique, Leiden, Vienna, Guyana. Also, I served
as a peer reviewer for 11th International Workshop on Spanish Sociolinguistics (WSS11). And I am currently reviewing for the Field Matters 2024 The third workshop on NLP applications to Field Linguistics. These experiences not only reinforced my passion for my domain but also provided me with practical skills and knowledge that I will carry into my future career.

Looking ahead, I plan to do at least two things: a) create a Student Success Club. The goal of this club is to provide peer-to-peer advice, resources, and support for students struggling with time management, stress, and feeling overwhelmed. The club will aim to foster a supportive community, promote healthy habits, and equip students with practical strategies for academic and personal success. b) create a Creole Cultural Lab. The Creole Cultural Lab will aim to celebrate and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Creole community by providing a dedicated space for learning, sharing, and preserving Creole traditions, language, and arts. I am confident that with the support of the Haitian American Leadership Award Scholarship Application, I can make significant contributions to my field and create a positive impact on society.

In my personal life, I enjoy reading, playing tic tac toe and piano. These activities allow me to unwind and recharge, providing a healthy balance to my busy academic life.

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be considered for the Haitian American Leadership Award Scholarship Application. This scholarship will not only help me achieve my educational and career goals but also allow me to give back to my community and contribute to make a broader impact. I am committed to making the most of this opportunity and am excited about the potential for growth and learning that it offers. Thank you for considering my application.
