Karly Heavens

Honors Student, Saint Augustine's University

Karly Heavens portrays the definition of a relentless worker and demonstrates that with persistence and assiduousness, dreams do come true. His leadership and creativity are some major aspects of his individuality. Karly Heavens is passionate about art and engages in sketching, music, and poetry. As a matter of fact, he runs an Instagram platform where he shares content related to poetry and stoicism. During his tenure as President of the student council at Institution Univers Chretien de Ouanaminthe, he has remarkably served his community through many activities and civic engagements. For example, he organized a fundraising event to repair a section of the road leading to his school.

Karly Heavens Gerome has also received many distinctions and awards due to his involvement in several extracurricular activities throughout his high school career, such as the First Lego League medal in 2016, the national volleyball championship in 2017, and being an inter-school spelling bee finalist in 2018 and 2019. He became the champion in 2021 and also achieved the title of inter-school debate champion.

After completing his secondary education at Institution Univers de Ouanaminthe and being a laureate at the national exams, as well as the valedictorian of his class, he is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering at Saint Augustine’s University as a Presidential scholar. His curiosity for everything related to automated systems has led him to aspire to become a mechanical engineer.

He is also the co-creator of Groundbreakers, a non-profit organization whose objective is to mentor young Haitians entering college and guide them throughout the college application process. This organization has helped several Haitian students gain access to college in the United States and Taiwan. Karly Heavens now serves as a member of the Saint Augustine’s University Honors college, SAU Stem club, and SAU Ethics Bowl Team.
