Haitian-American Educator

Valery Gabriel, a Haitian-American educator, is a beacon of inspiration. Her journey from Haiti to the US at age 13 and her subsequent educational achievements reflect her unwavering passion for education and cultural diversity. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education/ Spanish from Iona College, a Master of Science in TESOL from Lehman College, and an advanced Educational Leadership/Administration certificate from the College of Saint Rose.

Valery Gabriel’s career is marked by her impressive leadership and initiative. As a multilingual early childhood educator in the Bronx, she has excelled in her teaching role and taken on significant leadership responsibilities. She has served as a grade team leader for years and has been a part of numerous committees such as the Restorative Justice& Equity Team, Wellness Team, and School Climate. She even initiated a marketing team for the school, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit. Currently, she is a 3rd grade English as a New Language teacher in Rockland, continuing to shine her light and lift others.

Ms. Gabriel is a global citizen who has traveled, taught and attended professional service learning trips worldwide. She has spent summers teaching and learning in Zambia, India, Montenegro, Haiti, Thailand, Spain, and Switzerland. She extended that love for culture in her school by initiating and leading a language club where students learn French and Spanish concepts and explore others’ cultures. She is a culturally responsive educator and is the lead learner in initiating culturally responsive practices for her school district.

Ms. Gabriel enjoys living a life of service. She mentors Haitian youth at the Pilgrim Wesleyan Youth Ministry and volunteers in organizations such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Society of Haitian Supervisors and Administrators (SHSA), and the National Alliance for the Advancement for Haitian Professionals (NAAHP). She is also a board member for Rockland County Haiti Relief.
