Tell us a bit about your personal background.

I was born and raised in Chicago. I come from two Haitian parents and was raised in a Haitian community. My best friends are Haitian and recently I have discovered my wife has Haitian roots. I am a graduate of Penn State University. I am a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. I am the President of my local Toastmasters Club here in Chicago.

What’s your current job?

Project Manager – Reporting & Analytics

How did your background prepare you for your current role?

My background has prepared me by: 1) being a Haitian child to Haitian immigrants. They did not let up on me when it came to giving my best and not settling. 2) I always wanted to affect the environment I exist in so I speak up and volunteer for leadership roles 3) I have been part of organizations that were “figuring it out” so I have picked up on different styles of working and some best practices to carry into different roles

What is the biggest challenge of your work?

I am new to Supply Chain and Analytics so the hardest part currently is picking up all the knowledge and nomenclature of the job. What makes that harder is I was hired a few weeks before COVID-19 sent everyone home so my learning has come more from my own research rather than being with co-workers and being in the environment. As a Project Manager in general, is keeping everyone on the same page throughout the life of the project.

What would you say have been your greatest career or personal accomplishments so far?

Making a career pivot at the age of 31 to pursue Project Management. I was formerly working in Community Advocacy and Organizing. I decided to make a change and 4 years later, I am doing something that blends my ideals, skills, and talents better than my former roles.

What’s the most important leadership lesson you’ve learned?

That it’s ok to not have all the answers immediately.

How long have you been a member of the NAAHP? What’s your best experience thus far?

I have been a member for 1 month, I have enjoyed the COVID-19 webinars. It shows the level of commitment within this organization.

What kind of advice would you give to fellow NAAHP members looking to grow professionally?

I would tell them to engage with others.

Who or what inspires you?

My father inspires me.

Teaching my little one Kreyol.
