Fonkoze
Fonkoze’s vision is for a Haiti where people stand together to pull themselves out of poverty. Our mission, as a family of three organizations, is to work together to provide the financial and non-financial tools Haitians – primarily women – need to lift their families out of poverty.
Fonkoze is an organization with a double bottom line: We aim to lift families and communities in Haiti out of poverty while operating in a financially self-sustaining manner, using three interlocking approaches:
- To provide organized Haitian women with access to the financial, education and health tools they need to lift their families out of poverty;
- To demonstrate that it is possible to eliminate the extreme poverty that causes a person to lose hope and dignity; and
- To organize the poor to allow them to join the battle for lasting economic development in Haiti.
Currently, Fonkoze’s strong suite of products and services includes a full offering of microcredit programs mostly for women ranging from a program for the very poor (Ti Kredi, or little credit), to a thriving program of Grameen-model solidarity group lending, to individual business development loans for the most successful clients and micro-entrepreneurs, to financing for small and growing enterprises and programs:
- Savings products;
- Currency exchange services;
- Money transfer (remittance) services;
- Adult education for borrowers, developing leadership and solidarity among credit center members (including modules on basic literacy, business skills, health, and asset protection).
- Additional innovations for members, including micro-insurance, assistance in access to health care and preventative health, malnutrition prevention programs, and a strong program of social performance monitoring and client protection; and
- Chemen Lavi Miyò (CLM), an internationally-applauded program that walks ultra poor families out of the most devastating of circumstances, helping them establish sustainable livelihoods.
